Pirates Ahoy!

We have been enjoying reading a variety of imaginative pirate books, look closely at the characters, vocabulary and settings. Today we worked in pairs to record some "wonder" questions we would like to find the answers to regarding real life pirates. We discovered the difference between 'thick' and 'thin' questions; that is, questions that can be answered with short yes/no answers (thin) and those which need deeper explanation (thick).
We recorded our questions to put on our 'Wonder Wall'. We will seek to find the answers as we further investigate our pirates.
Tomorrow we will be doing some craft based around some imaginary pirate characters. I have asked the students to invent a pirate name for themselves (using their own name) which involves alliteration - eg Mean Marvin, Horrible Harry, Lovely Lucy, etc. They can be either mean or nice pirates.
