Week 1

We have had lots of fun during our first few days in 1SB!

We have been very busy learning how to use the handwriting lines in our new books, which can be a little challenging at first. We’re persevering though and are making some great progress.

We’ve also enjoyed reading “Possum Magic” by Mem Fox, and have completed some associated literature tasks. We’ve done lots of work on the THRASS chart, revising our phonemes. We have also looked closely at sentence structure and punctuation, writing some great sentences which include 'who', 'what' and 'when' elements. 

In Maths we’ve been doing lots and lots of work on counting and place value, building two-digit numbers. We’ve looked really carefully at the hundreds chart and found lots of patterns there. We’ve also learnt about “tens” and “ones”, building and partitioning these numbers with a variety of concrete materials. 

1SB also enjoyed their first Science, Spanish, Art and PE lessons for the term.

Wow – and that’s all in the first few days! I've included some photos below. 

This term we will be undertaking an English unit on ‘characterisation’, with Pirates being our central focus. I’d like to look at how pirates are portrayed (good/bad) and how their character traits are communicated (descriptive language / illustrations etc). We will also be looking at real life pirates and comparing them to our fictional pirates. If you have any ‘Pirate books’ at home, we’d love to borrow them! Please ensure your child’s name is written inside the book.
