Our Wonderful Parent Helpers!

We were so lucky this week to be visited by not one, but two lovely class mums, who joined us to share their knowledge of customs and traditions from other cultures.
On Tuesday Nathalie told us about traditions in Holland. She also gave the children each a special Dutch treat and a tulip to take home to their mothers. The students were also able to try on a pair of wooden clogs. Interestingly, there are many Dutch traditions which have not changed much over time, but instead have remained the same.

On Thursday May May shared with us the story and traditions of Chinese New Year. We were able to see some images and hear about how technology has had quite an impact on the way Chinese people celebrate this festival. We heard about giving red envelopes with money to children, to share good blessings. In modern-day China this can now be done via an app, rather than in person.
We were very interested to hear about the dragon dancing, loud drums and fireworks which are central to this traditional celebration.
