T2W1

What a fun and busy Week 1 we have had! We’ve enjoyed catching-up with friends after the holiday break.

We have begun our inquiries into the weather and seasons. Many thanks to our three special ‘Weather watchers’ who have offered to help us. We’d love to have two more, if possible.

In Maths this week we have revised some of our Place Value work, as well as some addition and subtraction problems. We will begin our ‘Stage’ Maths time next week, joining in mixed groups with Year 2 for one session a week. This term we will be focusing on addition and subtraction skills and strategies, with the intent to increase the fluency and automaticity of basic number combinations. For those wishing to do some extra practice at home, there is an option on Maths Online called “Speed Skills” which can be used. (This can be found at the bottom of the screen).

As per the welcome letter this week, could a pair of headphones please be brought to school ASAP. We will be using these during our iPad sessions.

Yesterday we looked closely at the map of Australia. During our Geography unit we will be looking at different places and environments. We will also be learning about maps and some mapping skills. We will continue to practice drawing outline maps of Australia, before completing one to display next week.

I look forward to seeing parents and friends of 1SB at Open Day, next week on Thursday.
