Week 2 was a busy and exciting week for us in 1SB. We have begun our Geography unit of inquiry “How is where you live linked to the weather you experience?”. We have undertaken some mapping activities and have investigated the names of the various States and Territories. We looked at some provocation pictures about Cyclone Tracy and read the book “Cyclone” by Jackie French. We also wondered why we don’t get cyclones where we live and will be looking at this question further in Week 3.

In Science the students began looking at weather symbols and are creating a data display in the classroom, depicting the daily weather.

In Maths we have been looking at fractions, discovering what the term ‘half’ means. We investigated a variety of shapes and discovered that there are two halves to a whole and that they must be equal. We learned what the written fraction 'one half' looks like. In Week 3 we will investigate how to determine half of a collection.

A highlight was the Open Day on Thursday. It was lovely to have so many visitors come to share in our learning. The students loved the opportunity to act as ‘tour guides’ in their classroom, sharing their learning space and workbooks with parents, grandparents and friends.
